The Building Process
The process of building your own home or house extension in the Auckland Region.
Building a new home or adding a house extension in Auckland has a number of important steps such as designing, budgeting, getting the building consent - these are required before the physical building starts. Below is an outline of the building process we use at Build Right Contractors to get your project up and running. We can guide you every step of the way.
This is our first meeting and gives us a chance to discuss your ideas for your project and how the process will work. At this stage we can give you a ballpark figure for your build, but please bear in mind this is not a final price. If you don’t already have an architect or draughtsman for your plans, we can recommend one for you.
At this stage, you’ll meet with us and your architect or architectural designer to talk in more detail about your ideas and your budget.
Before any plans are drawn up, we’ll inspect your site or property and gather any relevant information such as council plans to identify any potential issues early on. This helps us ensure that the design and construction process runs smoothly and takes into account any issues.
Concept plans are produced by your architect or architectural designer first. These are overview plans with options for your build. We’ll look over these plans with you to ensure that the construction is practical, structurally sound and can be achieved within your budget. If not, we’ll make recommendations for amendments.
Once you are happy with the concept and we have assessed the plans, your architect or designer will draw up more detailed plans and documents. This is then presented for your final review.
Before building can begin, council consent may need to be obtained. If this is required, the plans and any supporting documents are submitted to the council for approval. The council may ask for alterations or more information before approving your application. At this point we can put together the final quote/proposal to give you the final actual costs )unless there are changes required by the council)
Once the plans have been processed any alterations from the consent process can be costed into the final price and a contract can be drawn up for the build work.
Once any alterations from the consent process have been made, your final plans are drawn up along with a contract for the build.
Once everything is signed, work on your project can begin. We’ll keep in touch with you throughout the project to ensure everything is running smoothly and to answer any questions you may have. We can give you a breakdown of the process so you know what is likely to happen when.
Once all the building work is finished, we’ll go through the property with you to make sure you are happy with the results, If there are any fixes necessary these will be arranged, Otherwise, you can sign off on the work. A Code of Compliance also needs to be obtained from the local authority to confirm the work has been done in accordance with the building consent and to the proper standards.
