Not all homes work for open plan living from the start, but carefully thought out renovations can help you reconfigure your layout to improve indoor/outdoor flow or create better family living spaces.
This renovation and extension job in Avondale was designed to improve living areas and give the property a fresh new look while incorporating some clever budget stretching ideas.
The project included the renovation of several rooms and an extension of the living room.
The living room was extended to create a large open plan kitchen-dining-living area and two new decks were built on each open side of the living room to improve the outdoor space with large sliding doors for perfect indoor/outdoor flow.
In the extension, new Matai flooring was laid and coated, being carefully toothed into the existing floor so there was no definitive line between the old space and the new.
New aluminium joinery was also installed and given a timber border. This money-saving idea is useful if you don’t have the budget to replace old wooden joinery like for like but want to retain the character of the property.
The master bedroom and ensuite and main bathroom were also renovated. In the existing bedrooms, full-height sliding doors were fitted to improve storage and access.
Finally, the house was fully re-roofed and completely repainted to freshen it up.
Think renovations could work at your property?
If your home isn’t quite working for you but you don’t want to leave the area you live in, or your circumstances have changed and you need your house to change too, then renovations could be the solution.
